SR Suntour will start assembling rear shocks in France. The company announced at the recent Eurobike trade show that it will start with rear shocks, but this could be expanded to other bike components such as suspension forks. In the next few months, the Vélovertigo facility in Chambéry, France will be converted for assembling parts. Production is planned to start in January 2015. This policy change is supposed to address the need for more flexibility in the supply chain of bike makers in Europe, an issue which is likely to increasingly bring parts production back to the continent. SR Suntour said that, in its French facility, it will be possible to customize rear shocks for every customer and for every frame, and each customized shock will be registered with a specific code. SR Suntour is also starting direct production of carbon components. The company has been offering carbon components for some time but so far the actual production took place at subcontractors. The production of carbon components will gradually move to SR Suntour and the range will be broadened to items such as bottle holders.
