The collectibles-trading platform StockX has released an annual report, titled Big Facts: Current Culture Index: 2022, that breaks down its key markets – notably sneakers, but also electronics, toys and apparel – for the elapsed year 2021.

Jordan remained the best-selling sneaker brand, with items trading at an average premium of 60 percent. Nike, Adidas, New Balance (up one slot) and Converse (down one slot) round out the top five. The top selling models were the Air Jordan, the Nike Dunk (up four), the Air Force 1, the Yeezy 350 (down two) and the Air Jordan 4.

StockX highlights three “brands making moves.” Crocs, up one slot in the top ten, could boast the highest average price premium above retail: 98 percent. Reebok, which is changing hands from Adidas to the Authentic Brands Group, moved up three slots. But the highest climber, up six slots, was Bape (short for A Bathing Ape), which cracked the top ten for the first time.

The top five apparel brands were Supreme, Fear of God (up one), Vlone (up five), Cactus Jack (down two) and Nike, whose items traded at an average premium of 33 percent.

For the coming year StockX expects to see more tennis, racing and gaming in the fashion market. There were signs of this last year, when trading in Jordan Golf items was up 270 percent year-on-year, and trading in pre-schooler and toddler sneakers was up by 150 percent. The growth in women’s sneakers outpaced men’s growth by a factor of three. The company is expecting more collaborations as well, as the New York fashion brand Aimé Leon Dore helped fuel a 20-fold increase in trades of the New Balance 550, while the Milanese Off-White brand brought about a revival of the Jordan 2.
