Strong sales of snow-sports equipment by Blue Tomato in Europe contributed to a 1.5 percent increase in comparable store sales at Zumiez in the third quarter ended Nov. 2, coming on top of a 3.7 percent increase during the same quarter a year ago. A further 1.7 percent increase was recorded in the four weeks through Nov. 30, thanks in particular to a 11.2 percent jump during the Black Friday weekend. Online sales went up by 7.9 percent across the group on a comparable basis in the latest quarter. Total revenues went up by 6.2 percent to $191.0 million, but the net profit declined to $11.9 million from $12.7 million in spite of lower extraordinary charges. The charges related to the acquisition of Blue Tomato in Austria were down to $1.3 million from $4.0 million. By the end of its financial year, Zumiez will have opened 50 new stores in the U.S., nine in Canada and six in Europe– the latter through Blue Tomato.
