Super Retail Group of Australia has added to its stable of companies with the purchase of Rebel, the country's largest sporting goods retailer, from Archer Capital. The price of 610 million Australian dollars (€453.5m- $623.4m) covers 90 Rebel Sport stores, 36 Amart stores and two Performance Sport stores and expands Super Retail's realm, which already includes about 400 stores for automotive (Supercheap Auto); boating, camping and fishing (BCF); cycle (Goldcross Cycles); and outdoor recreation (Ray's Outdoors). The group's goal is to become Australia's biggest retailer of automotive and leisure products, and it hopes to build Rebel up to a total of 185 stores in the medium term. For the 2011 fiscal year, Rebel reported A$603 million (€448.3m-$616.3m) in turnover and an Ebitda of A$77 million (€57.2m-$78.7m). The acquisition should be completed by the end of this month.
