Textile manufacturers that specialize in fabrics for active sportswear and are part of the Italian sporting goods manufacturers association, Assosport, formed a subgroup within the association last month, called Assosportex and chaired by Giorgio Borgognoni, who runs a textile company called Tailor. Members of the new group have been instrumental in developing innovative samples of active sportswear that have been shown by Assosport at several international trade shows. The group has set up two workshops focusing on eco-sustainability and the development of fabrics for people with ailments such as diabetes. In 2007, Assosport members operating in the fitness sector created the subgroup Assofitness, and last year companies involved in tennis formed Assotennis.
