Textilwirtschaft reports that Decathlon intends to open a shop in the basement of a C&A store in Düsseldorf before the end of the year. The store would cover about 2,000 square meters in the fashion apparel retailer's flagship store in the city. A spokesman told the newspaper that the partnership was a one-off move to enable the French retailer to get into the market in Düsseldorf, where suitable retail space is particularly hard to find, but Decathlon is hoping to add a larger store to cover the city at a later stage. Decathlon is also reportedly preparing to open another store in Cologne, on 3,000 square meters in the DuMont Carré shopping center. Its neighbors should include a Zalando Outlet store and a fitness center. Decathlon opened its first store in Cologne earlier this year, in the Marsdorf business park. It reportedly has plans to open five more stores in Germany this year, in Passau, Wuppertal, Rheine, Dresden and Ahrensfelde-Eiche near Berlin, which would raise the number of German stores to 44.
