The anti-dumping duty of 48.5 percent on bicycles imported from China has been extended for five more years, according to a notice published on Oct. 6 in the Official Journal of the European Union. The duties have been in place since 1993. This exceptional fourth duty extension follows a review, triggered by a complaint lodged by the European Bicycle Manufacturers Association, that found that imported products were undercutting European producers' prices by 53 percent on average after deduction of the duty. The EU imported 460,000 bikes from China in 2010, or 4 percent less than the year before.
