The Central District Court of California has rejected a request by Oakley to cancel the contract recently signed by Nike with Rory Mcllroy, which is said to be worth $20 million a year. Oakley claimed that it had not been given adequate rights of first refusal under the terms of its previous contract with the Irish golf champion. As it turns out, Nike approached Mcllroy in the autumn of 2012 to discuss a sponsorship deal. Oakley lodged its lawsuit in December 2012 but reached an out-of-court settlement with Mcllroy last November.
