The co-founder and chairman of Nike, Phil Knight, and his wife, Penney, have donated $125 million to the Oregon Health Sciences University, with the amount designated to go toward advancing cardiovascular health. The university will create the OHSU Knight Cardiovascular Institute with the help of the gift, which is believed to be the largest charitable donation toward cardiovascular health ever in the U.S. Drs. Albert Starr and Sanjiv Kaul will lead the institute, which will be a leader in research, clinical care, professional training and outreach in heart and vascular disease. Its goal is to take prevention, diagnostic and treatment strategies from the laboratory to the clinic. Cardiovascular disease in the No. 1 killer in the world. The Knights previously gave the university $100 million to help create the OHSU Knight Cancer Institute.
