The consumption of bicycles and bike-related products grew in Spain by 6.6 percent in 2014 to a value of €1,354 million, according to a study commissioned to Sport Panel by Ambe, the Spanish bike industry association. Sales to all retail channels grew by 8.1 percent to €549 million, with multi-sport speciality retailers representing 16.6 percent of the total value, and bike specialists 73.3 percent. The sale of 1,088,000 complete bikes by manufacturers and importers to the trade generated sales of €240.3 million, 11.1 percent more than in 2013. Out of the total volume, 48 percent were mountain bikes and 36.4 percent children's bikes. Sales of e-bikes jumped by 76.2 percent to a still relatively low level of 17,655 units, well below the level of 480,000 units attained in Germany. Sales of bike helmets increased by 25 percent to €19.6 million.
