The consumption of sporting goods in France was up by 3.2 percent for the year 2012, according to data from the Bank of France that have been analyzed by sport-guide.com. Eight months of the year recorded a positive trend, based on the figures in the companies' VAT statements. The trend was negative only for April/May and October/November. It was the second consecutive year of growth for the sporting goods market, after it recorded a 2 percent increase in 2011. If the year 2012 was favorable in terms of sales, the margin level is set to be lower than the previous year due to strong sales during the winter and summer sales. It is too early to obtain figures on this matter, pending the shops' annual closure of accounts.
