The dates of the Outdoor Retailer Winter Market have been moved up by two weeks next year, to adjust to other events, the holiday calendar and final ordering deadlines. The show is to take place in Salt Lake City on Jan. 7-10, to avoid competing with the Sundance Film Festival for housing and the Martin Luther King Jr Holiday for the attention of retailers. The move is supported by responses to research conducted and sent to well over 6,000 specialty retailers and exhibitors earlier this year. The respondents were apparently eager to have an earlier show in order to be able to tweak their orders before the deadline, while having marketing and business discussions earlier in the season. The All Mountain Demo will still take place the day before the start of the fair, on Jan. 6. Emerald Exposition, the organizer of the biannual OR fair, said that future shows should remain in that earlier timeframe, with dates set for 7-10 Jan. in 2017 and Jan 6-9 in 2018. It has yet to be confirmed if the organizers intend to keep the show in Salt Lake City beyond 2016. An estimated 22,000 people attended the last winter show on Jan. 21-24, 2015.
