The European Commission has recommended the reinstatement of the one bag bass limit for fishermen from Oct. 1, and for the remainder of 2018. In June, the International Council for the Exploration of the Sea (Ices) had issued revised scientific advice which reduced the estimated impact of recreational fishing on bass from 1,627 tons to 212 tons, providing ground for a reinstatement of a bag limit. The ruling is now expected to be ratified by the EU Council of Ministers. The European Fishing Tackle Trade Association (EFTTA) and the European Anglers Alliance (EAA) had lobbied hard on the issue.
