The Federation of Sports and Play Associations (FSPA) has published a position paper regarding geo-blocking and other geographically-based restrictions when shopping and accessing information in the E.U. The U.K. trade body acknowledges that there are substantial barriers to the digital single market due to diverging legislation and different VAT rates. The FSPA supports the objective of the digital single market to remove unjustified barriers to cross-border e-commerce and to avoid discrimination favoring cross-border purchases online over local purchases offline. In addition, the FSPA maintains that the ability of companies to choose their business partners, distribution channels and geographic scope of operations must be preserved.
