The fitness segment of Brunswick Corp., consisting essentially of Life Fitness and Hammer Strength, grew by only 1 percent in the second quarter to $143.3 million. Sales outside the U.S. represented 48 percent of this amount and declined by 7 percent. Strong U.S. sales were partially offset by a decline in Europe. The segment's operating profit improved slightly to $19.9 million. As for Brunswick's bowling and billiards segment, operating profit fell slightly to $2.4 million in the quarter as sales declined by 6 percent to $72.6 million, with foreign revenues down by 7 percent to 25 percent of the total.
