The French cycling industry has gone through a rough patch in the first half, in contrast with the first six months of 2011. Bicycle sales have diminished by 6.5 percent, although results were different depending on the segment. Sales for urban bikes actually rose by 3.5 percent, favored by the policy of municipalities to give more and more space to cyclists in the city. Children's bikes and toys also recorded a good performance, up by 3.5 percent and 10 percent, respectively. Leisure bikes, in contrast, recorded the worst results, with sales of adult mountain bikes down by 10 percent and racing bikes losing 6 percent. Sales of accessories and components also went down, by 5.5 percent. In the year-ago period, sales for bicycles, equipment and components registered an increase of 5 percent.
