The French winter sports market is the second-largest in the world after the USA, according to the NPD Group, with consumers’ expenditures of €757 million in 2006, including €302 million spent on apparel and €454 million on equipment and ski-related services. In Europe, Germany was second after France at €744 million; Italy had a turnover of €367 million; England, €195 million; and Spain, €144 million. Together, the five largest European markets made a total of €3.7 billion that year, with €1.79 billion spent on apparel, €2.4 billion on equipment and €192 million on fashion inspired by winter sports. The Swedish and Russian markets together had a turnover of €1.5 billion in sales of winter sports products in 2006.
