The Future Group, the Indian retail behemoth, has reportedly filed a lawsuit against Amer Sports in New Delhi after the Finnish-based sports group sought to abruptly terminate its distribution deal with a specialist entity of the Future Group. Wilson has been distributed in India for several years by Pantaloon Retail India Limited (PRIL), which has a mixture of sports wholesaling and retailing activities, the latter focusing on Planet Sports, the only large-scale chain of multi-sports retailers in India. Indian newspapers reported that Amer Sports wanted to end the agreement and to prevent PRIL from selling any more Wilson products, whereas PRIL still has significant stock of the brand's products. Others indicated that Wilson had decided to terminate the deal because the distribution team of PRIL was dismantled as part of its move from Gurgaon to Mumbai last year, so that it was no longer able to sell Wilson products to retailers other than Planet Sports. Amer Sports could not be reached for comment.
