The Italian bike market recovered last year. After a drop suffered in 2013, sales of bicycles to the various retail channels increased by 6.4 percent to 1,644,600 units in 2014, thanks apparently to an improving economy and greater participation in the sport. Sales of e-bikes were stagnant at 51,156, in contrast with sharp increases in France and other countries, because of higher price levels. According to the Italian bike industry association, Ancma, domestic production went up by 2.2 percent to 2,737,000 units. Excluding e-bikes, exports went up by 1.1 percent to 1,766,000 units.
