The launch of the Spark, a sports and fitness watch integrating a heart-rate monitor and permanent activity tracking, among other features, supported sales growth of 5 percent to €146.0 million in the third quarter for the consumer product division at TomTom, excluding automotive hardware. Coming in several versions, the Spark integrates a music player, multi-sport functionality and GPS. TomTom's consumer products include personal navigation devices, navigation apps, action cameras and sports watches. The entire group's turnover for the quarter reached €254.2 million, up by 8 percent. The Dutch group's gross and operating margins both shrank by 4 percentage points but that was chiefly due to the weakening of the euro against the dollar, compared with the same period last year. TomTom ended the quarter with net profit of just €1.7 million, down by 70 percent.
