The number of golf rounds in the U.K., which had registered a positive trend in the first half of the year, declined in the third quarter when compared with the third quarter of 2016. According to the figures released by Sports Marketing Surveys (SMS), the decline was of 4 percent on an annualized basis. The wet weather, especially when compared with the third quarter of 2016, negatively impacted the numbers of rounds played. Rainfall was above average during July and August, and the country was hit by Storm Aileen in September. On a positive note, the monthly average from January to the end of September was up by 2 percent.
