The online shopping sites of Arcandor brought in €3.5 billion in orders in 2007, and the German retail group is forecasting an increase of 20 percent for the segment in the current year. The internet is the biggest growth area in its tourism, home shopping and department store units, and Arcandor claims to be second only to eBay in terms of e-commerce in Germany. Quelle.de is the most-visited site of the group with more than 50 million visitors per month, and its sales are 30 percent growth this year compared with last. The home shopping division has also had significant contributions from other Primondo Group shops including planet-sports.de. Karstadt.de, which is tied to the Karstadt department stores, is enjoying annual growth of about 40 percent. Many of the visitors to this site are people who check out products and availability online, then go to the brick-and-mortar stores for their purchase.
