The organizers of the Outdoor Retailer show have decided to keep it in Salt Lake City for an additional two years, through the summer of 2018. The short extension will put pressure on the city and the state of Utah to alleviate the hotel situation. Earlier dates have also been announced for both the winter and summer editions of the trade show, which has become the largest sporting goods fair in the U.S. since its start in 1996. As previously reported, the OR Winter Market will take place on Jan. 7-10 in 2016, and it will keep the same dates in 2017. The OR Summer Market will continue to happen at the beginning of August next year (Aug. 3-6), but then it will move to the end of July from 2017 (July 26-29). The decision to stay in SLC followed a survey of more than 6,000 exhibitors, specialty retailers and other attendees. More than two-third voted in favor of Utah's capital, partly because of a more favorable cost of doing business there than at other proposed venues such as Las Vegas, Orlando, Anaheim and Chicago. More in The Outdoor Industry Compass, which covered the last edition of the show extensively.
