The Swiss sporting goods market fell by 3.5 percent in 2018, according to GfK, after the small recovery that it had recorded in the previous year, but online sales went up by 30 percent. Sales of winter sports products fell by 12 percent because of unseasonable weather conditions in December and January. The summer business inched up by 0.5 percent, thanks to the World Cup and a long and warm season, but sales of outdoor products went down by 6 percent because of relatively high temperatures and constant price pressure. Sales of athletic footwear represented 30 percent of the total market, and they were relatively stable. The new year started well, thanks to good snow conditions.
