The TCS New York City Marathon, the world's largest marathon, accepted a record number of runners for its 2016 edition. New York Road Runners (NYRR), which organizes the event, announced it accepted 19,083 participants through the race entry lottery held on March 8, out of 82,172 applicants. NYRR said the figure marks an increase of 33 percent in lottery acceptances compared with 2015, and of 108 percent over the past two years combined - 2014 and 2015. The race is scheduled for Nov. 6. The application period was open for one month, from Jan. 21 to Feb. 21. Race officials said that 50,000 runners are expected to finish the marathon this year.
