The World Federation of the Sporting Goods Industry (WFSGI) and the Sports & Fitness Industry Association are working together on the launch of an online database that will provide subscribers with global information on product labelling requirements for the sports and fitness industry. The database, which should be operational this month, will offer the information for six categories, from apparel and textile to footwear, consumer electronics, personal protective equipment, sporting equipment and bicycles. The database was created and pre-financed by WFSGI members, and created in cooperation with Compliance & Risks, which is in charge of managing the system and providing expertise. The SFIA said the database was comprehensive and easy to access, and it should help global companies to instantly obtain information about the latest or the most obscure labelling requirements. Covering products and packaging in 49 countries, the database allows subscribers to create and download customized reports, based on their specific needs. They can also get email alerts when a new regulation is pending, passed or upcoming, to make sure they are always prepared for any changes. Asics, Columbia Sportswear, New Balance, Nike, Pentland Brands, Under Armour and VF Corporation are among the companies that have already committed to the database. The WFSGI said it would provide further details in the next few days.
