The World Federation of the Sporting Goods Industry (WFSGI) has launched a project to combat online counterfeits, in an attempt to oppose the growing phenomenon of internet-related counterfeit offerings and brand abuses. The project, developed in cooperation with Convey, has attracted a wide interest among the WFSGI members and, in particular, from the bicycle sector. More than 10,000 illegal listings have already been removed in less than three months of activities. The project covers four different kinds of services including the preliminary screenings of the current online situation of the WFSGI member, enforcement activities to remove counterfeit offerings from online marketplaces, enforcement activities to shut down abusive websites and to regain control of hijacked or otherwise illegally used domain names, and the safeguard of new domain names through the registration of trademarks owned by WFSGI members at the newly established “Trademark Clearinghouse.” WFSGI member companies who decide to join the project will benefit from preferential rates.
