There will be no Interbike show in Reno, Nevada as planned next September. The organizer of the major North American bike trade show, Emerald Expositions, justified the move with a difficult market for bicycles in the U.S. over the past four years, compounded by substantial increases in U.S. import tariffs for bike-related products this year and next. The industry has been consolidating, becoming more vertical. Emerald said it will research alternative plans for 2020 and subsequent years, possibly with the launch of bike-related events within or alongside its various multi-sport trade shows. It is probably referring to its Outdoor Retailer show in Denver. The Interbike show was held for the last time in Las Vegas last year. It had fewer exhibitors and visitors at its new venue in Reno-Tahoe this past September, where the event was preceded by a consumer festival.
