Three retail members of Sportringen – Hans Hedefur from Årjäng, Krister Jonsson from Tingsryd, and Sandro Arcari from Strömstad – have bought Sportringen from Team Sportia to continue operating the chain on a member-owned basis.
Fifty out the 53 stores affiliated with Sportringen chose to stay with the buying group before the latest transaction. Three stores focusing on bicycle retail chose to remain with Team Sportia.
Thomas Wallhager from Sporthandelsgymnasiet in Forshaga will serve as new chief executive of Sportringen. He is relocating to Sportringen's headquarter in Gothenburg – where Intersport also has its national head offices.
When Team Sportia bought Sportex from Sjätte AP-Fonden last autumn, its stake in Sportringen was included. Team Sportia announced that it did not intend to continue operating all three chains – and right before Christmas, it was announced that Sportex was being closed down. Seven Sportex stores became Team Sportia stores, two became members of Bike Partner and the rest were closed. At that time, the future of Sportringen was uncertain.
Before implementing a new strategy for Sportringen, the new owners will focus on having the company run smoothly for its members. More strategic information is expected to come in February, says Sportfack in reporting the latest developments.
