To celebrate Earth Day, which was on April 22, Adidas said it will launch three new models of tennis shoes on May 10 that are made with plastic waste thrown into the ocean. The initiative is part of the brand's new two-year partnership with Parley for the Oceans. Each of the new Ultraboost shoes will use on average 11 plastic bottles retrieved from the ocean. As reported in our last issue, Adidas already announced the launch of three Ultraboost running shoes made from plastic bottles. The program calls for the brand to put out a total of one million pairs of Ultraboost shoes made from up-cycled marine plastic in 2017.
