Toyota Motor North America and Toyota Racing Development USA, which is its U.S. racing arm, have developed the first Toyota sit-ski, a monoski made available for use by U.S. Paralympics Alpine Skiing at the Beijing 2022 Paralympic Winter Games. Testing first started in the winter of late 2019, with five-time Paralympian Chris Devlin-Young lending his expertise and feedback. The project’s focus areas include the suspension system, seating position/fit, and mechanical changes based on the disciplines within para-alpine skiing, Toyota explained. The project is part of the company’s broader commitment to Paralympic sports. In 2015, Toyota Motor Corp. became the official worldwide paralympic partner in the mobility category, with global rights for the 2017-2024 period. This deal is the first partnership in the Paralympic movement’s history to encapsulate the International Paralympic Committee, all National Paralympic Committees and future Paralympics Games under one agreement.
