The physical edition of Performance Days – initially planned for Dec. 1 and 2 – had to be cancelled at short notice due to the current sharp rise in Covid infections in Munich. Like already in May, the winter edition of the show will be moved entirely into the digital space.

The announcement came after the cancellation of another fabrics show in Munich, View Premium Selection, which was going to take place on Nov. 30 and Dec. 1, without offering a virtual alternative. Across Bavaria, where 66.3 percent of the population has been vaccinated, the number of cases per 100,000 residents has reached a level of more than 600 in the last seven days. In Munich alone, 1,460 new cases were announced on Nov. 23, when these announcements were made.

“Extraordinary situations require extraordinary decisions - which makes them all the more difficult. After experiencing a very successful and surprisingly well-attended show last week with the Functional Fabric Fair by Performance Days in Portland, Oregon, we tried everything until the last moment,” said Marco Weichert, CEO of Performance Days. “We met all the requirements, adapted our hygiene concept several times to the dynamically changing measures and took all the necessary precautions for a safe event. Unfortunately, current developments do not allow us to hold the show next week, as the protection and health of our visitors is undisputedly our top priority.”

The organizing team is now putting all its efforts into making the digital trade show a reality. As part of The Loop, interested parties already have the opportunity to view online fabric innovations and news for the 2023/24 winter season - including this year’s focus theme, “Sustainable Nylon” _ and the latest color trends. In the show’s Marketplace, visitors can examine the many products offered by exhibitors, including the curated sustainable fabric highlights from the Performance Forum.

To give visitors the most realistic digital presentation of fabrics in terms of feel, design and texture, the Performance Forum has been equipped with new 3D technology, including innovative tools such as 3D images, video animations and downloadable U3M files. For example, as part of the digital event program on Dec. 1 with various presentations, discussion panels and speakers via livestream, moderated by Charles Ross live from the Munich studio. On Dec. 2, the Sustain & Innovate conference on this year’s focus topic, “The Sustainable Future of Nylon,” will kick off with discussions and panels.
