The 50th edition of Munich Fabric Start, the international fabric trade show in Munich, which was held from Aug. 30 to Sep. 1, hosted around 900 exhibitors from 40 countries on a total exhibition area of 45,000 square meters. The event’s exhibition area was around 2,500 square meters more than at the last pre-Covid edition in September 2019, the organizers said in a press release. The event is managed by Munich Fabric Start Exhibitions. However, with 14,200 visitors at this year’s edition, Munich Fabric Start recorded a decline in the number of visitors compared to pre-pandemic times. The drop did not come as a surprise as it reflected a general trend across the trade show and event sector within a complex international business environment.
The topic of sustainability was featured at almost every booth, in addition to a specific presentation area on Sustainable Innovations, curated by Simon Angel. Munich Fabric Start comprises eight thematic areas: Fabrics and Additionals, with international material innovations for all apparel segments; ReSOURCE and innovative novelties for sustainable innovations; Design Studios with fabric designs and new developments for prints on an enlarged area; the KeyHouse innovation hub; the BlueZone denim powerhouse; and the new The Source sourcing area for international vertical integration.
