The International Olympic Committee (IOC) and the International Paralympic Committee (IPC) were informed by their Japanese parties, in a meeting on March 20, about their conclusion regarding overseas spectators at the Tokyo 2020 Olympic and Paralympic Games this summer. The IOC and the IPC have announced that they respect and accept the decision of the Japanese parties not to allow entry into Japan for overseas spectators “for the reason of the safety of every Games participant and the Japanese people,” in connection with the ongoing coronavirus pandemic worldwide. The tickets for the Olympic and Paralympic Games that have already been purchased by overseas residents from the Tokyo 2020 Organizing Committee will be refunded.
