ISPO Group recently published an interview with Jonas Schneider, Managing Director of Protect Our Winters (POW), on its website ispo.com to announce the second annual Ski Industry Climate Summit, scheduled for Dec. 2-3 during the ISPO Munich 2024 trade show. Organized by ski manufacturer Atomic, the summit brings together stakeholders focused on climate solutions for the ski and winter sports industry. This event premiered independently last year. However, this year’s integration with ISPO Munich is seen as a key addition to the trade show, especially in light of shifting industry support following ISPO’s move from January/February to November/December.

Schneider, who attended the inaugural summit, emphasized the urgency of climate action for the winter sports sector and expressed excitement over POW’s continued involvement as a partner. “The Ski Industry Climate Summit is crucial for driving collective action,” Schneider stated, underscoring POW’s commitment to fostering sustainability across the industry. The Federation of the European Sporting Goods Industry (FESI) and the European Outdoor Group (EOG) also partner in the event, enhancing the summit’s reach and influence.

According to the interview, the summit addresses major climate challenges, focusing on reducing emissions, advancing sustainable materials and promoting energy-efficient manufacturing in ski production.

Schneider highlighted the importance of ISPO Munich as a gathering point for industry leaders to collaborate on climate action. “Sustainability requires collective action, and ISPO Munich offers the perfect platform to align industry goals with climate solutions,” he noted. This year’s summit will feature insights from experts across environmental and business sectors, fostering discussions on actionable steps and partnerships.

The Ski Industry Climate Summit is expected to strengthen ISPO Munich’s role as a global platform for sports industry innovation, reconnecting the ski hardware industry with the trade show. Running alongside ISPO Munich’s broader exhibition, the summit aims to drive meaningful change and equip attendees with tools to address the environmental impact of winter sports.
