Trocathlon, a bi-annual event that allows French consumers to sell old sports products to other customers at Décathlon stores, has turned into a permanent market. The French sports retailer has set up an online platform at trocathlon.fr this month that will enable consumers to do the same all year around. Sellers and buyers will connect through the online platform but Décathlon stores will be the pick-up spots for the products. The buyers will pay for the products at the store, which will then issue a voucher of an equivalent price to the seller, without taking commission. Décathlon will also provide advice on the safety and price of the products offered by customers. The retailer will continue to hold bi-annual Trocathlon events, which mostly generate sales of used equipment. Such events are also held in other European countries where Décathlon is strongly established, such as Spain and Italy. For the time being the online platform is only available in France.
