The presidents of the French regions Auvergne-Rhône-Alpes and Provence-Alpes-Côte d’Azur, Laurent Wauquiez and Renaud Muselier, have announced that they want to submit a joint bid to the International Olympic Committee (IOC) to host the 2030 Winter Olympics. The announcement did not specify venues. Apart from France, Sweden has already expressed an interest in hosting the 2030 Winter Games in Stockholm. France hosted the inaugural Winter Games in Chamonix in 1924, then again in 1968 and 1992. Paris will host the Summer Olympics in 2024, and hosting the 2030 Winter Games would be an “opportunity to continue the momentum of the Paris 2024 Olympic and Paralympic Games,” said David Lappartient, president of the French Olympic Committee (CNOSF).
