Christian Wille, a 43-year-old German citizen who holds a university degree in international finance, will take the place of Martin Künzi as chief financial officer of Intersport International Corp. (IIC) as of January 2022. He will join IIC’s executive management board at the same time as Mateja Jesenek, a 54-year-old Slovenian who will assume responsibility for the group’s omnichannel development, including its digital division in Amsterdam.
Künzi, who is also deputy chief executive of the Swiss-based international retail organization, had recently announced his departure after 22 years with IIC by the end of this year to focus on his career as an independent board member at several companies. He will continue to support IIC through April 2022. Thanking him for his work, IIC’s CEO, Steve Evers, praised Künzi for his “exceptional” achievements and track record.
Wille, who has served at IIC as senior director of finance, accounting and controlling since 2017, joined the organization in 2010 as head of retail and licensing. He then worked briefly at The Athlete’s Foot (TAF), overseeing business development. Prior to IIC, he had worked for several years at Aldi as area manager.
After leading the territory licensed to Intersport Slovenia since 2012, Jesenek started at IIC in April 2019 as CEO of TAF, which was divested by IIC a few months ago. Due to her outstanding track record in the field, she was also promoted a year ago as chief retail officer of IIC as well as TAF.
Another member of IIC’s executive board, Markus Helbling, will continue in his current role as chief category and marketing officer.
