Portugal will replace Russia at the Women’s EURO 2022 final tournament, scheduled to take place in England on July 6-31. Portugal is the opponent that Russia defeated in the play-offs. In addition, Russia will have no affiliated clubs participating in UEFA club competitions in the 2022/23 season. UEFA has also declared the bid submitted by the Football Union of Russia (FUR) to host the UEFA EURO 2028 or the UEFA EURO 2032 as not eligible. These and other decisions were made on May 2 by the UEFA executive committee, further to its Feb. 28 decision to suspend all Russian representative teams and clubs from participating in UEFA competition matches until further notice in response to the war in Ukraine. The complete list of decisions that the UEFA executive committee made on May 2 is available in the related press release. The statement concludes that UEFA “will remain on standby to convene further meetings to reassess the legal and factual situation as it evolves and adopt further decisions as necessary.”
