UK Athletics has announced the election of former Olympic heptathlon champion Dame Denise Lewis as the organization’s new president. Lewis takes over from Jason Gardener, who has held the role since 2015.
Lewis won a gold medal at the 2000 Sydney Olympics after winning bronze at Atlanta 1996. Since retiring as an athlete in 2005, she has worked as a pundit and television presenter. In 2011, she was inducted into the England Athletics Hall of Fame. Lewis was awarded a damehood in June for services to sport and in recognition of her role as president of Commonwealth Games England.
UK Athletics has also announced the appointment of Hannah England, a former world 1,500m silver medalist, as a vice-president of the organization.
