Umbro has “a couple of things in the works that are pretty substantial going forward,” said Dave Jones, executive vice president and chief financial officer of Iconix Brand Group, at a recent conference organized by CL King. He said the brand is generating sales of about $700 million a year at the retail level worldwide, but very little in the U.S., where it has partnered recently with Dick's Sporting Goods and a few other specialty retailers. Iconix bought Umbro from Nike in 2012. It's one of Iconix' active brands that is offering the highest growth potential through licenses, along with Danskin, Mossimo, Ocean Pacific, Pony and Starter, Jones said.
