Under Armour (UA) and Virgin Galactic, the space tourism start-up that is set to operate its first commercial space flight in the near future, have unveiled a range of spacewear for passengers, designed by UA. It is the first collection ever created for private astronauts. The line includes a base layer, a spacesuit, footwear, a training suit and a jacket. The spacesuit, in royal blue, is made of lightweight “flight-grade” fabric designed to keep passengers comfortable, and features cushioning at the elbows, at the knees and in the footwear. Flight suits are not known to be typically light or comfortable. The material is made from special yarn that is said to help regulate body temperature, according to UA. Input for the design of the different items came from a diverse team of experts, including astronauts, pilots, doctors, trainers, apparel and footwear designers, engineers, and future astronaut customers. Virgin Galactic's space commercial flights are currently expected to begin in 2020.
