USA Swimming has suspended Michael Phelps from competitions until April 6, 2016. The winner of 22 Olympic medals will no longer get his monthly stipend and will be banned from representing the U.S. at the FINA World Swimming Championships in August 2015. The reason for the measure is his arrest on Sept. 30 on charges of driving under the influence. He has reportedly entered a six-week rehabilitation program. Speedo stopped its sponsorship deal with Phelps last year, but the 29-year-old U.S. champion announced a new deal with Aqua Sphere in early August for a co-branded range of entry-level swim products. Phelps returned to competitive swimming earlier this year, posing as a candidate to represent the U.S. at the 2016 Olympic Games in Rio de Janeiro.
