Uvex grew by 4 percent to €343 million for the financial year ended last July, indicating that one of the factors for this performance was the flexible response to market demands that it can provide thanks to its manufacturing operations in Germany. The company's sports unit, which includes the Alpina brand of eyewear, posted a sales increase of 2 percent, but on a comparable basis its sales were largely stable at €80 million due to the unfavorable weather conditions of last spring and the company's decision to stop selling motorcycle helmets. The safety division raised its sales by 4 percent to €248 million, representing 72 percent of the group's turnover.
