VF Corp. announced that Veronica Wuu has decided to step down as one of the 12 members of the group’s board of directors, pointing out that this was not the result of any disagreement on any matter relating to VF’s operations, policies or practices. Wuu had joined the board in March 2019. According to U.S. media, her departure could be related to comments that she made in an e-mail exchange in June 2020 with regard to the Black Lives Matter movement. According to an American news service, Axios, she said at the time: “I don’t believe in Black Lives Matter. If anything I think they are the true racists trying to stir up things to make this country going [sic] to socialism or even communism potentially.” VF was very critical of George Floyd’s death in May of last year. Steve Rendle, president and CEO of VF, said at the time: “The virus behind our global shutdown has a formal name: Covid-19. The virus that caused the death of George Floyd and many other people of color also has a formal name. It’s called racism,” he wrote. “Racism is not welcome at VF Corporation. It never has been and never will be.” Last February, VF announced various initiatives intended to promote racial equality inside the group.
