Vietnam’s textile and apparel exports fell 18.1 percent to $9.72 billion in the January-April 2023 period, according to preliminary data from the customs IT and statistics department of the Department of Customs under the country’s Ministry of Finance. Yarn exports during the first four months of 2023 dropped 32.9 percent compared with the same period of the previous year. The U.S. accounted for nearly 43 percent of exports, followed by Japan and South Korea. In terms of yarn exports, China received 47 percent of Vietnam’s exports. In 2022, Vietnam’s textile and garment exports grew by 14.7 percent year-on-year, reaching $37.5 billion. Yarn exports in 2022 increased by 50.1 percent year-on-year to $5.61 billion.
