World Padel Tour (WPT) has decided to level all prize money handed out at every event, with immediate effect. With this decision, described as having “no precedent in worldwide sport,” WPT becomes the first global competition to have equal prize money at all its events. This is also the latest in a series of steps undertaken by WPT to close the gap between genders in professional padel. The recently started 2022 season, for example, will see more international women’s events than ever before, WPT has stressed in its web release. Prize money at women’s tournaments will increase by 250 percent at Challenger events, 178 percent at Open and Master events, and 160 percent at the Master Final.
