YouTube will launch its first official live commerce shopping channel in South Korea on June 30, Reuters reported. South Korea already has a booming live streaming commerce business led by tech giant Naver. This makes the country a prime test market for the Alphabet-owned company as it focuses on becoming more shopper-friendly.
The new channel will operate in the Korean language and is expected to launch as a 90-day project. Initially, it will offer a live commerce platform for businesses and plans to live stream shopping content from about 30 brands, Yonhap and other Korean media reported, citing people familiar with the matter. According to Yonhap, this is YouTube’s first official shopping channel in any country.
