Zalando has created a unisex, modular sweatshirt made of Infinna – a fiber produced in Finland by Infinited Fiber Company that consists entirely of post-consumer textile waste. Even the weave has been designed, in 3D, to cut waste to 3 percent of the raw fabric. The sweatshirt was on display from Nov. 25 to Dec. 10 of last year at London’s Design Museum, where a QR code would trigger a video detailing its life cycle and care.

Zalando’s head of circularity, Laura Coppen, sees the garment as a sort of proof of concept for circular fashion. “Alongside our investment in Infinited Fiber Company,” she said, “we wanted to showcase the material, combining several other strategies, like the digital product passport, low waste pattern design and engaging communication towards customers.”

Zalando announced in September that it was investing in Infinited Fiber Company, whose factory should be operational by 2024.
