The animal welfare organization Four Paws has announced a new signing of the letter of intent to move away from mulesing sheep’s wool. Retailer Zalando has joined the campaign, pledging to phase out its offerings of wool products that are not mulesing-free. The campaign calls for a complete shift away from the practice in the wool industry by 2030 at the latest.

The 45 companies that have already signed the letter include Adidas, Icebreaker, Jack Wolfskin, Patagonia, Mammut, The North Face and Smartwool. On the retail side, retailers such as the H&M Group, as well as Breuninger and the Otto group, are on the list.

Four Paws wants to mobilize as many brands as possible to publicly speak out against animal suffering in production and initiate corresponding processes in their companies. The aim is to put economic pressure on the Australian sheep wool industry to end mulesing and to signal to woolgrowers that a growing number of brands demand this transition. According to a Four Paws blog entry, Nike is the next company on the campaigning targets list, with a rally that started in June, including a video on Youtube directly addressing the company.
